Ed, You should start your on forum so you can control who joins and answers your questions.

Just messing with Ya !

You are correct with both.
Debris is a normal/usual reply which most are aware of so I asked the NON OBVIOUS question.
Most are not aware that other than debris the screen dissipates the foam which is at that location in route to the oil pump.
You aren't aware that when questions are asked and we/you are one with the answer sit back and allow others to consider the question and offer their thoughts.
I've noticed there are many members who over time have come forward with the correct replies and have/will become PROFESSORS as they work with each other to gain knowledge of these bikes and didn't learn only because I answered the easy questions but watch as they discuss things among themselves. That said I will get in there if the subject answers are headed incorrectly. The forum now has many almost PROFESSORS as they have observed the forum and have learned well. Those members know who they are and I'd like to think I've added to their knowledge and their enjoyment of these bikes I love. ..................lm

I know of an apprentice who, when asked to fill a car engine with oil, emptied a whole 5 gallon drum into it.....

It would be an interesting experiment but better if someone else does it.

You only know when you are talking to a real engineer when he answers all of your questions with "It depends".

So many real engineering questions need clarification to be able to come up with an answer. Then you need to assess (difficult on a forum) the technical ability of the questioner so that you can provide an answer which is intelligible.

i.e. is it worth discussing the difference between aeration and cavitation..........

Or perhaps you could write a book but do add a timing light to your tune-up. Haha

Hi G,
Franco Cappellini has done some testing and even the stock pump with oil at top mark sucks some air even at moderate speeds and he recomeneds running 3/16" above the top mark. Or better yet get one of his trick oil pump kits with a rubber packing to pervent air from getting sucked in from the top. I have inspected most all of his cb72 parts and there all excellent. I'm currently testing a stock cl72 with his #100 filter unit on my test stand with good results.

Continue thinking like that LM. I for one have have had a great learning curve from this forum, mainly due to you sharing your knowledge and vast experience. And, I might add, I still have a great deal to learn. Please do not stop your tutoring. You brought it up for thought and while it is on my mind, I want to thank you very much for all you have done for me over the last year. Many of us would be completely lost but for the little push and expertise you share. I am just about done with my CL77 and will be using your formula for start up and tuning for sure.

Please accept my sincere appreciation for you being you.

Tim

Yes his stuff looks very interesting and well made. I have just picked a 500cc "development" motor based on a C72 crankcase and CB500T crank. Lots of work has been done but I think I shall need a Cappelini pump when it runs.
