Craftsman offers a set of two strap wrenches, with rubber straps. The larger one will hold the rotor in place easily while you use the puller. Regards, Chase

You shouldn't need a strap wrench. Tighten the tool against the end of the crank, then give it a light tap with a hammer, it will pop right off.

Have the flywheel off. cannot remove bottom trans case

Post by apophis » Fri Jul 19, 2013 5:57 pm

I have the flywheel off after getting the tool on ebay. I have all the nuts off the bottom case 1/2 all the way around. quadruple checked. I have the oil pump out as well. I cannot separate the case 1/2's. I have used a rubber mallet for about 2 hours working my way around the case and it is not moving at all (engine is upside down as I need to replace 2nd gear or the shifting fork). I see no bolts or nuts in the way. is there anything I am missing?

Did you remove the two bolts that hold the valley cover latch on, on top of the top case?

I hadnt when I posted, then found this link:

http://www.honda305.com/forums/1962-cb7 ... 79-63.html

and that resolved the issue. I have the bottom cover off and am comparing my parts to the donor setup I got on ebay. To me, one of my shifter forks is bent on one side. like its dented midway down. So i am reusing my bearings but putting the whole doner setup in as it has less wear.

my case halves had no gasket between them but what looks like just a tiny layer of sealant. I had no leaks.

I now see in my gasket kit there isnt one so do i put sealant on it? if yes, what type?

what sealant for the case halves?

I have the donor tranny & shift forks in and new seals. what case sealant do I use? I have cleaned the mating surfaces, but it looks like there were 2 sealants used. very light tan and in some spots black (it reminds me of the high tack aviation permatex)

what gives the best result?

I typically use yamabond 4 on case halves
