Good call on the kick starter and the chain both, since I pulled the kickstart gear out and looked at the back of it, and it apparently had been sliding in and hitting the chain/front sprocket. The reason that it could slide into the engine was that I did not have the kickstart arm on it, I had to put a new NOS gear on since the original was so beat up all the teeth on the shaft were sheared off. Unfortunately, now the old kickstart arm won't easily (or even difficultly) go back on, so in my haste to try try the bike, I just left it off. Pulled the gear off and went back out and all is quiet, except the roar of the exhaust, which is pretty dang sweet!
I'm glad to see the weather has warmed up Jensen, thanks for the pointers on the advance. I guess since I have over 17k miles showing on the odometer, it can be considered broken in! I will take it easy for awhile since it hasn't run in several years at least. I does run really nicely though, I'm very happy with the Sachse ignition and new coils - starts instantly!

Thanks for the help all,
Jack
