Yeah, I knew this would be confusing.
You have zoomed in on the blue crank weight I am talking about.
However, the bearing I was talking about is not in the picture. It was a ball bearing on the stator side that I removed prior to the photo. Like I said, the inner race had some play, and I can feel roughness in the ball bearing contact surfaces as I spin it.

I am having trouble determining the condition of those inner bearings.

Let's start at the top. That valve is showing signs of running hot, but it's quite normal to see that on a motor that was run hard. A regular street ride will tend to look black.

As LM indicated, check that valve for leaks. It may have been slightly tight on rocker clearance and may have been leaking, or the mixture might have been a touch lean on that side.

I'm not seeing what you're seeing on the crank, but you could have it pressed apart to check the condition of the rollers. If the big end was starved of oil or failing from over revving, typically the big end would look very blue.

What did the piston look like on the seized part of the skirt and under the crown as well as the top surface? I can't think of anything in the crank or cam that a slight spill would upset. If the oil way inside that cover were damaged, it would cause a transmission problem not the top end.

Isn't that the right cylinder head we're looking at there? As in the Other left.

And the part of the crank with the blue part we're seeing seems to be around a lightening hole. Is it blue near the big end pin, or just out there? Since it's the web on the inside, the implication is that the inner bearing on that side may have a problem.

If the blue appears to have originated at the center pin or the big end pin, I'd strip the crank and inspect the bearings. If it's just around that hole I'd was things out with WD40 and see how the bearings sound.

Teazer,

Damnit. It looks like you are right, and we're looking at left. The left hand cylinder head. When I go home tonight (I'm at work), I'll double check everything first hand. I'll get some pics of the pistons too.

After it seized and I tried to kick it over, I listened closely and I did hear the sound of resistance down low on the left side of the motor. That's why I think the left piston seized.

As for the crank. I need to take a closer look at the sides of that weight and see if they are also blue.

Thanks for the help. I'll report back.
