I've got the exact same issue (backfire out of carbs every 10th kick and flames out of the exhaust every 15th or so) haven't adjusted or touched the valves but have run through the Ed Moore guide a couple times to get the timing pegged.
New coils, condenser and points. Carbs rebuilt and adjusted floats to spec too. I'd needed to replace a broken kick bushing and pawl last week so I'm thinking its quite possible that I've reassembled the cam orientation incorrectly when putting the bottom back together. What was the method (if its easy enough to describe) to check to see if the cam is 180 off? Also, I've spent a solid chunk of time trying to track down info on how to adjust the valves, but have only found the specs for the Dream, not the CB77 (1964). Is there a reference to how to do this properly? Thanks- Erik
