bolt removal

Post by mike1969 » Mon Oct 18, 2010 2:30 pm

I don't use any rough stuff when screwing. I find the easy gentle way works best.
I use plenty of lube (preferably Astroglide)
I take my index finger and middle finger and slowly rub the area to be screwed with the lube until ready for screwing.

The problem here is some people have never felt the secret joy of a well placed blow with a tuning maul.
It's very similar to that all too infrequent feeling you get when you catch a golf ball on the sweet spot of a driver.
Subliminal but very satisfying!

Hotshoe,

We would refer to that piece of engineering excellence as a two pound, short handled, knockometer. A calibrated one is best and it should come with full inspection and certification & documentation.

All frivolity aside, the idea is to impart a force of short duration and high intensity to break the bolt loose. An air wrench aka rattle gun works on that principle and is the best tool to use, as LM pointed out pages back, but if that is not available, a large hammer carefully applied should work.

I know silverclerk has removed his oil pump, at least. I'm watching for news about the rotor bolt, myself, though.
