If you can get it up 1/2" all around, you might be able to peer in with a light. In the past I have had trouble with corroded knock/dowel pins that would not come out.
I'll take a peek in there. If one was rusted to hell, any suggestions on how to remove or break it loose? Heat probably?
Penetrating oil, patience, heat. Or you might see something else in there. Those small lights on a flexible wand are useful in cases like this.
If you need to lever against aluminium, or hit it, use wood. It takes the damage rather than the metal.

I've never tried to split those cases without removing the rotor, starter sprocket, etc. but I would imagine the case would get hung up on the starter sprocket.

Thanks for the input, guys. Ed was right about the crank seal being stuck, it just took a little careful prying. All of my guide pins were A-Okay.

I even left the rotor and starter gear in just fine, since all I need to access is the transmission components.

Ed, I didn't catch your email or anything, but here's a link to a photo bucket of those pictures you requested. Feel free to shoot me a Private Message if there's something you'd like to see else wise.
