Torquing CA77 Head Bolts

The sealing washer you need is part number 90441-259-000. .............lm

These washers are only one of the parts items that HONDA messed up with the parts books and fiche. I have the CL72/77 parts books and fiche and they show 4 sealing and 4 8mm washers when in fact the engines up to 1967 actually had zinc plated copper washers at all 8 top studs. CB77 parts book and fiche shows the 8 followed by the 4 and 4 numbers. 1967 HONDA changed to 4 steel washers at the 4 middle studs held in place with 4 normal nuts not cap nuts. There are others parts which are tough to trace through the years because the of errors made and then repeated over and over. At times I compare same parts with the books/fiche of all these type engines so I can know what's what. ......................lm

so just to confirm...the copper ones go on the corners, ( I suppose they seal the oil in) and the steel ones on the middle 4 studs. Why does Honda call the ones I got today (steel) sealing washers?

well darn, they sent me 90441-286-000...what is that number for?...It doesn't even show up in my parts book. <john>

p.s. my cb77 has 1966 on the wiring harness...so I suppose 8 copper would be fine?

The parts you received don't cross/supersede to the ones you need as I can find it. You should have 8 to be correct but as HONDA did change to steel in the middle I don't see a problem with the 4 steel in the middle and 4 copper at the corners. ..................lm

o.k., I'm gonna try and get those 2 studs down and go with the 4 and 4 washer set up and hope for the best.....thanks<john>

I know that this is an old thread but I could use some clarification on this issue please. My CA78 is 1966 but I would like to use the 1967 head stud nut configuration. I hope that this will help me stop snapping studs. As I understand it:

Outside: 1 acorn nuts on top of 1 steel washer each,
Inside: 1 hex nut on top of 1 copper washer each.

Correct?
