penetrating oil

Post by conbs » Sat Dec 11, 2010 11:42 am

bbap,

There is a thread on this site that discussed penetrating oils with some data which I copied to my files.

Pentrating oil / Average load / Price perfluid ounce
None / 516 pounds /
WD-40 / 238 pounds / $0.25
PB Blaster / 214 pounds / $0.35
Liquid Wrench / 127 pounds / $0.21
Kano Kroil / 106 pounds / $0.75
ATF-Acetone mix / 53 pounds / $0.10

The ATF-Acetone mix was mixed 1 to 1 ratio.

I thought it was pretty impressive. You might try the ATF-Acetone mixture to unstick your pistons.

Thanks Conbs, I did see that post. I was looking to see if there was a post that dealt with the best way to un-stick the motor such as:
1. Step 1: liberal spray of ATF/Acetone to both cylinders
2. Step 2: Wait 48 hours
3. Step 3: Press firmly on the kick starter (or) put in gear and gently rock bike back and forth

Maybe the better or more typical way is to:
1. Step 2: Remove the motor from the frame
2. Step 3: Remove the ________________

That type of reference from people that have encountered this a few times. I've done this a number of times on vintage motocrosser's, but removing the engine, top end and split of cases appears to be much easier on the single bangers....
