When working on 50-year-old engines I've found it best to not go looking for trouble... Unless the threads on the studs are ruined or they need to go into another set of cases, I'm not messing with 'em!

I use a similar tool to the one LM described and providing you grip as low on the stud as possible to prevent torsional twisting and apply some heat to the alloy cases you stand a good chance of removing them.

My plan is to transfer studs from a damaged case to a good one without studs. I have a few new ones but I still have to remove some. Thanks for all the advice.
