I had a similar problem with a leak on my 1965 CB77. I fixed it by inserting a thin fibre washer between the cable end and the threaded housing. The washer needs to be thin to avoid disengaging the cable tachometer drive. See photo. It has totally fixed the leak. Maybe not standard but did the job. Hope this helps you.

thanks! i actually did just that, except with a fairly thin copper washer. as far as im concerned thats a poor design. my old cable had an integral washer. this new 4into1.com cable does not. they also hosed me for 40$ on ebay when they sell it for 26 on their site. lesson learned.
