No chance of any 'purchase' I'm afraid as the screw head is completely Donald Ducked. The only way forward would be to drill the head off, which I hope to avoid, so my fingers are now crossed that a replacement gasket will do the trick. Time will tell.

Al

If you are still in trouble, I can help out. I am a 'dab hand' at removing un-removable screws and, if all else fails, I have spare tachometer drives.

Many thanks G. As I say, I'm hoping that the leak proves to be as a result of the lack of a decent gasket, so once I've fitted a replacement I'll be better able to decide whether or not I need to remove the cable attachment plate. If it does need removing I'll get back to you for a bit of expert guidance. Meanwhile, hope springs eternal, as they say.

Hi,
Reading your posts Al with great interest as I gave posted elsewhere on a leak from my tachometer drive. I think in my case, reading 48lesco, the rubber washer in the cable is missing. Anyone have a picture of it? I will try to make one once I know what it looks like. Thanks.
Gordon

Having looked at the seal in the cable on my bike I can't see how it could be left out or, indeed, replaced as it's an integral part of the cable manufacture. I've taken a photo of mine but the system won't allow me to attach it to this posting.

I have had a look at the cable on my CB77 and I see there is a small red sealing washer on the cable inner. See photo below.

I think my leak was coming from the interface between the knurled nut and the tacho drive bearing. I have fitted a thin fibre washer between the interface and it seems to have sured the leak on a 30 mile ride today.

Perhaps not the origial configuration but it does seem to have done the job to fix the oil leak.

Thanks to Al and 48lesco for your good advice.
