cb cam shaft removal

Hello

I am trying to remove a cb cam shaft. The cam gear has become slightly loose from the shaft spline body at the rivets. I can peen them over but will probably replace, that is if I can get it out.

I have remove the right side out as per the manual and begun tapping out the left. the bearings are free but the spline will not release . I have tried a bit of my old friend propane torch to heat a little but I do not wish to distort things too much so I have been frugal.

Is there a trick here? I am concerned about damaging the bearing tunnel.

Did you release the taper holding the left cam? Loosen the nut at the end of the cam, tap on the end of the shaft to release the tapered end of the bolt from the id of the cam.

I thought the threaded retainer was on the right> I dont have the manual handy.

Either way yes I have removed and that piece is out.

I am wondering if it would have been easier to prize off while the bearings were still in the tunnel.

The two splines are locked differently. One has the big tapered locknut, the other has a drawbar with a tapered end that passed right though the tachometer drive. Undo the m6 nut then tap the protruding bolt with a soft hammer. It works like a bicycle stem. The drawbar bolt must be tapped in before it loosens the grip on the internal spline.

Thanks. When I think of it the dream motor was in pieces the last time I was assembling so I didnt have this problem.
