I pulled the filters and tubes and with engine running at idle The slides are firmly seated at the bottom with the idle screws removed and still it's idling at 1000-1250 or so. Checked timing again static with bulb. Both points open EXACTLY at respective F marks. Advance with strobe is between both advance marks at full advance although at idle it's past the F mark with strobe but that's common cuz you're not at 0rpm. Maybe weak advance springs? But then they'd be weak from the get-go and it was always kind of like that with the strobe. Also wouldn't be so sudden if they were weak springs. I'm not really sure what to check next. Could my slides be worn?

Ideas??

Since it doesn't seem to be a carb problem and I can't detect any air leaks I decided to play with the timing some more. If I retarded it a bit, and static timed both points to the 'T' mark instead of the 'F' mark it idles lower, at 1k rpms but I still cant get the engine to die out by unscrewing the idle screws until the slides are fully seated, just chills at 1k rpms! Advance timing with a strobe shows it's a bit retarded at full advance but it still reaches the first advance timing mark and kinda floats between them when revved out.

I didn't re-check it but perhaps I set my points a little wide or something, I remember setting it to .016" as that was the first gauge I grabbed and I knew it was relatively correct? I know it's like .014-.016 so maybe the gap is just a bit wide. I dunno.

At any rate I'm going to ride it like this for a while and see how things settle, thoughts?
