Franco Cappellini has done some testing and even the stock pump with oil at top mark sucks some air even at moderate speeds and he recomeneds running 3/16" above the top mark. Or better yet get one of his trick oil pump kits with a rubber packing to pervent air from getting sucked in from the top. I have inspected most all of his cb72 parts and there all excellent. I'm currently testing a stock cl72 with his #100 filter unit on my test stand with good results.

Tim, do you think that the #100 filter conversion kit will work fine with the stock pump? My mechanic has been trying to get me to buy the kit for my SuperHawk (it has the 350 kit and the NOVA 5 speed), but I don't want to also have to spend another $400 on their uprated pump. Just wondering if it's better to just leave well enough alone and stick with the stock centrifugal filter.
