Kick starter gears

Post by Husker45 » Sat Aug 10, 2013 3:30 pm

A couple of questions about the kick starter gears. I have a 1962 CB77 I am slowly (very slowly) trying to restore. Since the splines on my kick starter gear are very damaged I thought I would just delete the kick starter and rely on the starter motor. Do I need to install the kick starter gear and pinion with the spring if I don't plan on having a kick starter? Does the kick starter gear/pinion assembly maintain tension on kick start spindle?

If I do need to install them is there a discussion in the forum somewhere that walks one through the assembly? I've searched several times and could not find any specific. I know the general assembly I'm just not sure how to assemble to get the correct spring tension with the right side cover installed.

As always any advice greatly appreciated. Wouldn't have gotten this far without the forum.
