Odd top end noise

it occurs once for each valve closure, you can feel it on each valve also both intakes, both exhausts. Yes, cam pointer jumps forward a hair when it clicks.

EDIT:
interesting. I just tried adjusting the chain, slacked the nut and backed out the bolt, rotated motor and the shaft doesn't move at all. Not even a bit. Will pull adjuster tomorrow and check it.

I had 2 engines with this. You could turn the engine over slowly and watch the right cam jump. Both bikes had had recent engine rebuilds. (not done by me) One had been running for some time and the other had not been run yet.The center nut that connects the cams together was loose enough to cause some slop. Tightened the nut and all was well.
