How to remove valves from CB77?

Post by FiremanBob » Mon Jun 17, 2013 9:01 pm

I have the Silver Engine Repair manual but it isn't too clear on how to remove the rockers and valves. I do not have a special "rocker pin removal tool" but plenty of 6mm bolts.

How do I use these to remove the rocker pins?

My guess: it appears that they pull out towards the outside of the head. I saw a Ducati "rocker pin removal tool" that used a small slide-hammer to yank out the pin. My first thought is to put a properly-wide socket over the outside of the pin, put a bolt through it, and screw the bolt into the pin so that it will pull slowly as the bolt head rests on the end of the socket.

What is the right way?

Thanks.

Your "first thought" is right on FB, they usually come out pretty easy that way. That big screwdriver slot is to allow you to clock them into position during installation. Lots of posts about removing the valves and cams - use the search in the left margin. Good Luck!

I use a LONG punch and at the inside of the head I hit the pin and it comes clear of the head so I can use the punch to pop it out.
Keep in mind the pins have large and small ends.
Large end has a larger hole than the small end
Large end is at the intake valve and small is at the exhaust. ..........lm

Thanks. Got the valves out easily, with puller made from a 70mm bolt, a couple of washers, and a 19mm deep socket. Now to get the cam apart...
