big bore kit pieced together

Post by captain awesome » Thu Mar 21, 2013 1:02 pm

I've been eying the big bore kit from Boretech. The cost is a lot steeper than I want to pay for the full kit, but it looks like you could piece the kit together from their parts for a decent cost. $117.50 for the Boretech pistons and head gasket, plus some cb750 liners machined to fit. Seems like it would work, but maybe I'm missing something.

Piston replacement set: $75

Head gasket: $42.50

I've got a buddy with some cb750 liners I can have, so they just have to be machined to fit.

Keep in mind that as you raise the bore size you increase the chances of breaking the already delicate kickstarter.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm still new to these bikes, so I hadn't heard there was a kickstarter issue. I'll do some reading up on that and see what I am getting myself into.

Big bore

Awesome,

Using the 750 liners will require machining the head for them to fit. Have you calculated the amount of room you need/have to make sure they will fit? If not maybe you could Siamese them or something. Let us know what you find.

I haven't got that far yet, but will look into it. I am hoping that the machining cost won't be more than what a completed kit would cost otherwise it won't make much sense to do it this way.
