CB77 - Boring Nec, Best Option/Size for Parts?CB77 - Boring Nec, Best Option/Size for Parts?I've freed the piston in the basket case I now own (it sat outside for years). Now of course the cylinders need bored.
The mechs at the local shop (established for decades - lots of old stuff) tell me a .5mm overbore will clean up the affected cylinder. They can find no replacement pistons/rings for me, though. In fact, they felt I'd have a really hard time finding a piston and rings for a CB77... However, there are far too many posts about seized engines on here for pistons/rings to be THAT hard to get. For example, I see on Ebay +5.mm piston/ring kits mfgd by WISECO for $239.00. I also saw a +.75mm kit for $150. Plus I read here about putting CB350 pistons in these engines. Having learned all of this, my questions are the following: 1.) Bored vs 350: what all do I have to do for the 350 piston-option to work, and how much will it stand to run me? $$ 2a.) The +.75mm kit I mentioned above is for a CL77. Same difference, right? 2b.) The kit has no wrist pins. Will stock 305 ones work? 2c.) I'm leaning toward this option. An overbore of +.75mm is safe, and will in no way affect the longevity of the engine will it? 3.) Other places to get oversized pistons and rings for a CB77? Thanks, Andy
Re: CB77 - Boring Nec, Best Option/Size for Parts?I have the CB/CL77 .75 pistons and rings and the C/CA 77 pistons which will raise the compression a small amount and cost a lot less.
The pins will work if they are not warn out. ..........lm
Thanks for the reply. If I'm understanding you correctly, you have in your possession BOTH the +.75mm CB/CL77 pistons AND the +.75mm CA77 pistons.
And the CA77 pistons are cheaper. (Are you selling them?) Lastly, the CA77 pistons will raise the compression -- a good thing, I'm thinking, but does it necessitate other changes? O/S pistonsI just got a set of the Wisco pistons, and they are beautiful. Forged, cut down skirts, and a complete package for doing your top end. That's all I'm going to use from now on. Just my 2cents. Davomoto
