Head Gasket question
Head Gasket questionhey all, recently bought some .75 oversize pistons from lm and some .75 rings off ebay for my cb77, tore down the top end last night and took the cylinders in to the local spot for machining. when i tore down the top end last night though, i noticed a lot of oil on and under the head gasket. when i rebuilt this engine the first time, i just honed the tubes and put new rings in, so i had low compression and some oil seepage from the sparkplug holes. atleast thats why i thought i had oil seepage. so anyhow, i'm going to be putting this thing back together soon with a new head gasket of course and my question is, why shouldn't i use gasket glue on the head gasket?, it seems like it would help a lot with the nasty little drip i can't seem to get rid of.

Re: Head Gasket questionIf parts are flat as they should be and ya tighten the head nuts in the correct order and torque the head gasket will seal and as ya just found "if ya need to get in there ya don't have to scrape the 2 surfaces clean".
Ask yourself this. "Did HONDA glue any gaskets?". ................lm
You should never put sealer on a head gasket. Surface the head on a piece of wet-or-dry sandpaper, glued to a piece of plate glass, to make sure it's flat. Use new(viton) o-rings at the corners around the oil passage studs, make sure the studs aren't bottoming out in the acorn nuts before everything comes tight. If you still feel the need for sealer, dust a thin coat of aluminum spray paint on both sides of the gasket and let it dry before assembly.
