.1mm Oversize Wrist Pins

Post by 48lesco » Mon Sep 26, 2011 1:37 pm

Anyone ever tried ball broaching to oversize the rods and pistons for the .1mm pins? Might not be as painful as it sounds, and may make a better hole than reaming:

Apologies in advance if there's a thread on this already...

Have considered this for other (non motorcycle) jobs where it wasn't suitable due to the amount of expansion you can get on the hole.

It's worth a try on a rod, though. I wonder what the minimum quantity is for the balls?

The other problem that I can see is that the rod eye will be oval and pushing the ball through may not correct that.

That's a good point on rounding out the hole. From the website, it looks like they sell a kit with 7 balls all around the nominal size so you can dial it in. That would also let you make the piston clearance slightly tighter. I'll call and see how much they want for a set, and if they have any thoughts on an elongated hole.
