Pressure

Post by conbs » Sat Jun 11, 2011 11:18 am

Graham,

We were using a 12-ton press. We loaded up pretty good pressure, but I would say it was not at its limit. Like Jerry said a 12-ton press is plenty. As he also said, hitting it with a hammer when the pressure is loaded will start the shaft moving. I did not hear a loud bang when things started to move with either crank, but it may have been obscured by the sound of the hammer.

Thanks for the offer and please let me know on the crank end. In the mean time if anyone else has one I would appreciate hearing from you.

That big end pin is in remarkably good condition. The shaft could be repaired by welding it up/plasma spraying it. There have to still be places in th midlands that can repair a shaft and grind it back to size.

Probably more expensive that donor crank, but quite feasible.

Nice crank expose. Thanks for posting it and sharing the information.
