Where does the castle nut go?Where does the castle nut go?Sorry, I am not good at posting pictures. My Clymer handbook shows pictures of this castle nut below the bottom of the case, but it does not show exactly where it goes. They call it a 'sealing nut' and the washer is called 'washer A'. Can you help me with the correct location? Thanks for all your help..Ron
I started to install the nut at this location, but other than the proper thread size, nothing else seem to fit. Presently as the nut stands, the aluminum washer is situated about 1/3 the way up on the outside of the shaft of the nut and is formed in a crescent-like shape. Like it was fitted into an indentation or something. I could probably remove the washer with a drift or chisel, but I wonder how the hole in the washer got so big that it was able to fit over the nut shaft. Installed as it is, it does not appear to really seal anything. I know that there must be a reason Honda installed this type of bolt there, but I cannot see why. Thanks for any additional information..Ron
If the washer is bowed replace it. Remove it carefully along with any loose bits that may have gotten stuck in the stud threads.
You may want to chase the threads with the correct size die. Dana
