Dead horse-cam chain again.Dead horse-cam chain again.I just put my head on and hooked up the cam chain. '0' is upright on the cam sprocket with the master link on that top tooth. The rotor/stator indicates TDC. So at this point everything is in order. I turn the engine over in the direction of rotation until the master link comes back around to the top. But the master link is no longer on that same tooth; is this normal? I guess that I figured the ratio of cam teeth to crank teeth should be 2:1. Now that I think about it, it seems like that ratio is bigger. I need some clarification. Anyone care to assist?
Thanks, Jeff. Jethro
A common mistake but always perplexing. :-) The number of links in the chain is not an even multiple of the number of teeth on the sprockets. It helps spread the wear. Triumph used an odd number of teeth on their intermediate cam wheels with the same effect. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72
