valve tappet adjustment

Post by attmchappo » Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:06 pm

alright so i bought a carburetor rebuild kit. ive yet to rebuild it tho. but yesturday i was driving the bike and it was running really good all of a sudden one cylinder cut out and i took it home. and there was a hole in the cylinder cap where the stud on the rocker broke through.the stud was really loose and had backed out. i was curious first of all what would cause that. second of all what is the specs for the tappet clearance. its a 1965 honda 305 cb77.

The CA77 is .004, not sure if the CB's are the same. Maybe it was just loose from previous adjustment. Did you check before starting bike?

that would made a hell of a racket for quite awhile if it really backed out. Did you not hear that? Run a rocker arm .010 loose and you can really hear it. To hammer a hole in the cap it would have been .10 and more out. One hell of a noise.
