CB77 gasket set id help please!

Post by Pod » Fri Mar 17, 2006 6:18 am

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but not to Honda 'bikes! I bought my '63 CB77 cafe racer in 1975 and really think it is time to get on with the long anticipated rebuild. (mid-life crisis??)

I have recently bought a full gasket set on ebay. the vendor stated that it is for a CB77 Superhawk. When I received it, it was marked as suitable for a honda 350. The manufacturer is "Centauro", Italy. The Centauro gasket set reference number is 666A350FL. I have not broken open the packaging, but note that the head gasket cylinder seal diameter is about 66mm.

The vendor insists that the manufacturer lists this for a CB77. I have contacted the manufacturer who no longer hold microfiches of "such old" bikes and so will not comment either way.

Can any body give me some advice please? I don't wish to return the set unnecessarily if it is good for my engine and all the castings are the same as for a 350. On the other hand, if the vendor is mistaken then he can give me a refund (I hope!).

Thanks in anticipation,

Pod.

The 350 and 305 motors are 2 different animals! It can't be a fit for both!
If you look at the head gasket, if all the bolt holes project out from the edge of the gasket then it's for a 350. If the bolt holes are all well within the edge of the gasket, it's for the 305. If you give me the number on the package I can probably tell you for sure.

OOPS! If I paid attention I would've noticed the part number in your post! Nuff said. Send it back. It's wrong.

POD, I feel your pain!! E-Bay.........man-o-man! I would love to see a picture of your cafe racer cb. I'm in the process of building one, now that I have my rider complete and I need some inspiration/ideas. Steve(kustomusic) Greer

Hi Piecutter/Kustommusic!

Thanks for the advice. I will be contacting the vendor for a refund! I will try to post a pic of my 'bike here, but the only good one I have is a colour transparency I took soon after I bought it (in 1975!).

Thanks again!

Pod.
