CB77 starter clutch outer

Post by Wilf » Mon Oct 19, 2009 9:05 pm

My starter clutch was being a bit temperamental so while the motor was out waiting for other parts I pulled the stator and rotor. I grit my teeth when I saw the cracks and places where bits have gone missing. Any opinions about whether this unit is serviceable still?

I noticed a film of oil on the guts of it and also on the outside surface of the starter sprocket so I'm sure I'll need a new sprocket seal. The rollers are a bit under the new spec of 10.2mm (they range from 10.127 to 10.163mm). Spring caps show some wear and two of the springs are under the 24mm replacement length. The screws holding the clutch outer to the rotor are still tight and I'd just as soon not mess with them if I can simply replace the rollers, cups and springs.

Thanks,

Wilf

I should add that when I first got the bike and looked into the right side there was no starter sprocket stopper. I have no idea if or for how long the engine ran without it.
