Provided there's no cracking in the casing(s) you can check for flatness of the clutch cover on a sheet of glass laid on a (flat) bench. Pick up a piece, about 18" square, from a glazier; go for at least ¼" and have them polish the edges and corners for safety -- it'll probably come in useful for all sorts of 'facing'. Lay it on a square of thick felt, or similar. If the casing's not flat or is damaged, you can face it with carborundum (valve lapping paste) or similar by using the glass as a 'facing bed'. If it's really off then it may be better to have it machined at an engineering shop.
