Thanks for the reply, Matt. I am taking things slowly so I have not gotten to the timing or carb yet, but I paid a healthy price for the carb on eBay and it was to have been on a good running bike. I have a new post concerning oil filter installation.

I asked about the carbs because it's a pain to try and break in a newly assembled engine with unknown condition carbs.<br /><br />Matt

Amen to the carbs situation, and yes to the jumping engin video, though it probably won't jump around too much, but you probably will break some fins and that would suck. <br /> Hey, carbs are real easy to clean and rebuild and kits are real cheap ($20) if you don't want to clean and reuse your original parts. Just dismantle, be very carful with your gaskets if you're going to reuse them, use a skinny screwdriver to get out the screws seated in the base above the floats (I forget what they're called) soak it in a carb cleaner solution - NOT RUBBER PARTS- ($13 in a gallon can with a strainer basket at automotive store) then reassemble. Seat all interior screws, 2.24-2.5 turns out on your air / fuel mix screw, or whatever your manual states and if you reuse your gaskets spray and rub them down with silicone spay, it'll clean them and make them like new. Easy, not scary.

Thanks Firebob and all others who replied with help. The engine starts in a heartbeat, it just sounds like it is missing slightly, I think it is a carb situation so I will remember the rebuilding instructions from Firebob. I have sinced removed the engine and am preparing the bike for painting, but at least now I know the motor will run. Then when I get it all back together I will see what kind of power it has and try to tune it up a bit.
