Engine dies as I soon as accelerate in 1st gear

Yup, that's rich; although not overly-so. Sounds like the crud in your tank is causing you fuel problems too.

Spargett, On CB77s you don't need to remove the kick start lever to remove the right side cover. That will come off with the cover. Good luck on your fuel(?) problem. Kustommusic

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize it was suppose to come out. Turns out that I have a CL77 kick start shaft instead of the CB77. Loud Mouse advised me (via PM) that it's prob just stuck in the threads a little. I'm going to try and get a large screwdriver to thread through where the lever usually is for better leverage and pull it out. Unfortunately without removing the cover I can't really add any sort of lubrication to help aleviate the shaft.

I think I'll have some time to give it a shot later on today.
