305 engine with no serial no.

I bought a wrecked 65 305 Dream for parts and the engine has no serial number. The space that the serial no. is usually stamped in has just a bunch of tiny dots. Anyone have any idea of how this may have happened?

I have one on a superhawk. I was told the case was damaged and the replacement part from Honda had no Serial number.

If their is another answer, I would love to know.

I've had them on a few different Hondas, and they are replacement cases from Honda.
