cb77 Piston stress cracks

Post by lhz55 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 10:06 pm

Do I have to replace the piston? I have discovered hairline stress cracks in the piston where the pin slides in. Only the inside of the channel closest to the hollow center of the piston, shows the cracks. The pin feels fine when slipped in. The cracks are barely visible. This is a disapointment as all my parts have come in and I'm ready to start reassembly.
Thanks, Lee

Hello Lee. Are you sure you aren't actually looking at casting webs?. ...............lm

Thanks for the responce. No, I'm sure they are hairline cracks. Also they are located at the TDC of the pin channel. They extend about 1/3 of the way into the channel from hollow center. I assume
it would be foolish to try and run it the way it is.
Thanks, Lee
