Assembly order

Post by britman » Fri May 23, 2008 8:32 pm

What is the assembly order of the oil filter gear, inverted washer or spring depending on terminology, and lock nut on front primary chain sprocket of a 1966/67 CL 77. I know the lock nut is last to bend the tabs down on the nut. I presume the washer-spring is placed on the outside of the oil filter gear and does it matter which way the tension or inversion of the washer-spring is set. It is not real clear in any of my manuals. I am referring to items 9 and 10 below.

Sprocket, compression washer, middle high out then star lock washer and nut with round side in.
The compression washer has the high middle out so when the nut is tightened the middle of the washer is compressed in and holds the sprocket. You see the star washer is cone shaped and that is why the nut is installed with the rounded edge in. .......................lm
