Check the flow?Check the flow? When checking your oil pump by using the submerged in a pan of oil method, what should the flow be? I checked mine today and there is some oil being pumped by it certainly not going to knock you over. I am going to install new a gasket and check wear anyway, just wondering how much volume should I expect.
Hi Britman
On one of the threads is a comment I posted when I changed my oil pump after a seizure. Basically a friend who works in the Nissan Engineering centre here in the UK suggested the way to test this type of pump was to submerge it and see how much head ( height ) of oil it could maintain. I decided against building a test rig but did check the flow by spinning the assembled engine over ( no plugs in ) with a car battery and watching the oil enter the rocker area in the head. Once it had fed its way through the oil galleries you could see oil being pumped into the head; hard to say but probably a teaspoons worth at a time but being flung with a fair bit of force - think I described it as gouts of oil. Anything that looks like its just dribbling out I'd say is suspect though what you do if thats the case is a bit awkward .. CMSNL in Holland had the last NOS pump I saw. Does Lex Barker in the US still so his dual gear pump if you can supply the gears ? Hope this is of use, Phil UK
