Hello motor heads - I have a challenge for you!
My 1966 Superhawk blew the head gasket and has been repaired with new gaskets and seals, honed the cylinders (in great shape), new rings. All good. Since I had the motor apart, I went through the carbs - weren't dirty, but... Upon getting the motor running, the right cylinder was running rich - very rich, fouling the plug. Re-cleaned the carb, checked jets - all fine, nothing changed. Valves were re-checked - hadn't moved and were perfect. Compression is about 115 (I'm at 5,000 ft) and both cylinders are exactly the same. I changed the points and the right coil, new spark plug, tested the wires, new cap - all checks out exactly the same as the left side. Still runs rich! And very doggy off idle (I think the right cylinder bogs the whole motor down). At higher RPM's (above 4 to 5,000 it runs normal.
I've run out of ideas, and my knees hurt (no motorcycle lift over here!) :-(
Any other hunches are welcome!
