65' CL77-INSTALLING NEW VALVE SEATS. CAN IT BE DONE?

Post by jcspc » Fri Mar 21, 2008 12:14 am

I tore the top end down on my 65 CL77. The right side piston was rusted to the cylinder and I got that loose and removed. I took the head into the engine shop to resurface the valves and stuff but the guy said that the seat is too pitted from rust to grind it down. He wants to reseat it but is concerned about boring out the old one. He needs to go 7/16 deep with the bore so a new seat can be pressed in and doesn't know if that would go too deep and ruin the head. Is it possible to install new valve seats in a
CL77 head?

Thanks
Jeff

Mybad. The dimension is actually 7/32, not 7/16.

As the chamber in the head is Steel that is cast into Aluminum and I don't know of anyone who knows the thickness of the Steel I'm not sure it will work.
It's your bet. .................lm
