CA 160, using cheap Thai headlight assembly, blowing bulbs

I picked up one of those plastic Thai headlight assemblies from the internet. It's a pretty plastic, poorly made deal in comparison to a real sealed beam. I had to buy a few bulbs because I kept blowing the headlight, and shortly afterward I would blow the tail light. This became pretty aggravating and I had to stop riding at night.
I even blew a bulb just warming the bike up, on it's stand- which suggests to me it's an electric issue and not necessarily intense vibrations of cheap materials.
I'm wondering if anyone has encountered a similar issue- how they remedied it- and I am looking for some good information on using the old sealed-beam as a container for replaceable bulbs.
Thanks!
