ca95 to ca160 swap question

hi guys, does anyone know if the ca95 engine can be replaced with the ca160 engine?
do they have the same mounting bolt pattern? the bikes look identical, but the engines
don't.

curious , did you ever get your answer ? or did you try it out for yourself? I was hoping to put a CL175 engine in my CA 160 but fell in love with both and decided I needed to keep both running , I have the curse ... (<>..<>) NOMAD

hi, i ended up getting one of each bike(a 150 and 160). they have different motor mounting points and different exhaust pipes. i think a 175 would bolt right in though, except maybe the head cover would need to be swapped. it would need to be a single carb 175 like the cd175(also a cool bike)
i haven't had a chance to work on the ca160 yet. do you know if they are 12 volt like the cb160, or are they 6 volt like the ca150? i'd love to install a 12 volt electronic ignition :-)

The Ca 160 is a 6 volt system , but I swapped the stator, regulator with a CL 175 and used a radio shack rectifier and a Emgo coil , it is now a 12 volt system that really Shocks and awes the only drawback is the battery I had on hand did not fit under the side cover , but saddlebags and longer cables work fine , I find it difficult to work on the 6volt systems (good new parts are the real issue ) if you can find a battery that fits i suggest going for it i used a schematic for the CL 175 for wire color reference, and just did it as nobody here answered (I am not an electrical engineer just cheap and determined ) by the way i can use the starter or if i barely touch the kicker it fires right up I am soo happy about this :)

that sounds like a good set up. what did you do about the 6v headlight on the ca160?

the bulb blew up the day I got the bike and attempted to start with a 12 volt jumpstarter ( did not know it was a 6 volt system) learned the hard way , ok since the light was toasted I started looking for bulbs , and looking , I finally found some 35/35Watt H4 Halogens from a scooter dealer on line in flordia for $12 a pair , I used the cutoff wheel on the Dremmel and removed the soldered on stub for the origonal then enlargened to allow the metal rim of the new bulb to fit inside , I did not figure out how to make a perfect fit so I used some small solid copper wire (phone wire) looped around the mounting screws and across the back of the bulb , it does not move so I am happy I bet someone knows how to convert a proper socket for it to fit into , but this works for me , the electrical connection was a trip to the auto department to find the H4 connector with "pig tails" then hooked up the red blue and green ground , the ground i beefed up to the frame and not the headlight rim as I have a few coats of paint to deal with . I am guessing I could use a higher wattage bulb with my electrical conversion without problem , but without knowing the amperage i am a little hesitant to make the jump to 55/60 watt ,
there is something I would like to add ... I put one of those "Bad Boy " horns from Wolo on my 04 Nomad , it gets attention ! Shyt your pants attention ! so much attention that people are startled awake , drop their cellphones , spill their coffee , and loose their place while reading the paper and driving , they end up looking for the semi in the rearview and there i am ;) one of those on the CA 160 instead of the factory horn would reall rock

i think i'll try to do something similar to that. the 35/35 bulb was a wise choice, any more than that and it would be too much for the charging system to supply.
i finally started work on mine the other day. hopefully it will be running soon.
