I just bought a 69 CB350 and am trying to get it running. But I've run into a problem with the kickstart. So heres the situation:
1. kickstart doesnt have alot of resistance
2. kickstart will turn wheel when in gear
3. kickstart will only turn engine over every 4th or 5th kick... seems to have good compression when it does though.
This bike hasnt run in about 7 years but is in really good shape. I'm no expert mechanic but I can figure stuff out most of the time....any help would be really appreciated.

Ok... so I hooked up the jumper cables to my bike and tried the electric start. It works and I have no problem getting the engine to turn. But I still wonder whats the problem with the kickstart... its not supposed to act like that is it?

slang, I'm kinda thinking that it's a common problem with alot of older Hondas. The pawl on the end of the kick shaft wears out. I believe it's time for a bit of a tear down! Do you have a shop manual? That would be a bigger help than me on that deal, but good luck ! Steve Greer

I'm afraid you're not going to have an answer without going into the bottom end. Fortunately it's all under the right side cover so you don't have to split the cases. You will have to remove the clutch basket to examine all the parts, though. The kick start shaft has a ratcheted drive gear at it's base which drives an idle gear which in turn drives the clutch. Look for broken teeth on the gears or perhaps a worn out shaft seat which is allowing the shaft to tilt away from the idle gear.
