Since the non-firing cylinder moved with the plug, it indicates a bad plug. Once in a while you can get a brand new plug that just doesn't work. The smoking also might improve as you run it because rings can be stuck with years of sitting. With use they may free up and reduce the smoking. It's not guaranteed but I've seen that happen frequently.
