CB77 Front Fender Offset

Greetings,

I recently pulled off the fenders and side covers from my 1965 CB77 and had them stripped and repainted. While putting everything back on I noticed that the fender mounts on the front forks protrude a different amount on each fork slider. Based on what I've been able to discern from an exploded parts schematic the fender mounts to each fork by way of a set pin and a single flange bolt on each side with no washers or spacers. This leaves the front fender offset to the right (viewed from the saddle looking forward) by about 1/8 inch. Is this correct? Should there be a spacer on the right side mount to center the fender?

Thanks.

Since you identify your bike as a 1965 model it might have either of the two designs of front fork. (Honda did not use model years.) If the frame number is CB77-10301030 or later you should have the aluminum bottomed forks. In this case, except for colours, there is no room for error. The fender bolts directly to the fork bottom and if it is off centre it is probably bent or something else is wrong. This is what my bike is like so I know from experience.

However, should your bike predate the above frame number, there are, according to my 1969 parts manual, two styles of steel fork (except for colour again). The change was made at CB77-311502 in 1963. Is it possible that a new style fork was replaced by an old one or vice versa? I don't know whether this would matter but given that there is only one fender for both old styles I suspect not.

I hope this helps.
