To buy or not to buy: that is thy question?

I'm going to a new job inteview tomorrow in automotive sales at nissan and then I'm looking at a honda 305. I've just been told over the phone a bit about it and from the same friend at the wedding. I'm currently building a cb100 frame (that's about all that's left stock besides the swing arm) with a xl185 motor. First motorcycle but nothing new to me in the mechanical department of my life. I'm actually considering building a business besides working automotives sales in powdercoating and polishing and i'm a ceramics artist on top of everything. I'm walking away from a family owned flooring business because i'm tired of labor and yelling with my old man. 12 years of it, back pain, knee pain, i've had enough and worse case scenario I'm an outside help with the business.

So camera in hand I'm going to go look at a 305 and make some choices in life. Worse case if I get it i'll part it out. I'm not the biggest fan of that idea. It's been inside in a basement for many years. I suspect it's rebuildable and i'm going to spend the night while my niece sleeps figuring out some prices on everything to rebuild it.

I bought a basement queen 305 Dream about 3 months ago and it took me about 2 months and about a 100+ hours of "labor". Parts were very accessible but a little spendy at times. The reason I purchased mine was simple: It is a wicked cool bike and I rarely ever see them running down the road. I personally was built in the 60's, so it just seemed fitting for a road bike to have a similar build date. I love vintage and historic pieces of iron and I did not want something like everyone else. I rebuild about 5 bikes MX bikes per year and sell them a year latter when I want something different. All the MX bikes I've done are in the 70's and 80's (My teen-youth time). I've done this for about 4 years or so. I'm keeping the dream - I have no intention of reselling this puppy.

Why are YOU thinking about getting involved in this? Name your Poison/Passion...

Why? Different, mechanically beautiful, even if it was in my future space and not a runner I'd still like it. I see my newish beginnings in life and for the most it's a highly different perspective and look then of my old life but it feels right these days.

Even if bought it and it sat I be tempted to turn it into a vintage racer like a cb77 and even if it was turned into a Cb77 and sat i'd still like it. When I was a kid I built legos and then they sat on the shelf. I'm still the kid in life (age 30) and single and no children. I wouldn't mind a conversation piece. I wouldn't mind something different, I wouldn't mind the respect of my elders, I wouldn't mind using it as a test of my ability to work on mechanical machines and show of my talents. Even if i built a small business and it was a show bike with no internals in the engine. I'd still love it. Classy motorcycle to show off the powdercoating business? I'm having fun with the cb100/125 chassis and it's not about restoring a motorcycle in my eyes with them. THere isn't enough history behind them to protect the motorcycles. However there is some sense of history with the 305 and I appreciate that about the motorcycle alot. People who plan on working on a motorcycle and it has history and a reputation and some sense of worth. If they see the time I put into this motorcycle I'm sure they would sense my sense of respect for it and othered treasured machines etc.

It's my art background i think that has me lingering for the desire to work on motorcycles now. When I did ceramics it went into a gallery and only a few saw it bought it. When I finish a motorcycle everyone gets to see it.

Did I mention i'm turning my kilns into powdercoating ovens. :-). THe price for it. well kinda pocket change in comparison what most people would pay for one. Sub 400.00.

What's is there to think about for a honda 305 for sub $400.00 that has sat in a basement?

My advice would be to go into used car sales. New car sales are way down in comparison and the payout is not as good. :-)

The problem with used car sales around this area is that most of it is very scetchy around here in my opinion. There isn't a used car sales group that I find decent that has a decent reputation within 20 miles from me. Used car sales only works in my area really if you are a used cars sales dealer. Besides that used cars in general and sales man are not really popular and most people source used cars from craigslist. I thought about used car sales but the only place i'd want to work for is 40 miles from my location. I'm not that interested in the haul up there.

Up late still researching and looking into the idea of buying a 305. Most likely I'm getting it. It's going to be a slow build and i'm in no rush to complete it any time soon.

As far as plans? I'd be keeping this bike and i'm not allways into restoring a motorcycle back to original because even though I have plenty of "connections" and have the ability to bring it back to where it was when it was originally sold I feel like the profit margin isn't there for me because if I restored it completely i'd sell it. I'm not interested in selling the motorcycle.

So if I do get it it's going on weight saving diet and it's going to look like a street CR93 for me to be content with it. Aluminum rims, aluminum exhaust, aluminum cr93 replica style tank, cb160 front fender. Black and silver minus the chrome will be the paint scheme. I'm not the biggest fan of Chrome or should I say I'm not a fan at all of it. I don't know why, just it's not my thing. At this point I'm leaning towards getting the bike just because I get to test the front wheel and drum setup on my crazy little cb125 motorcycle i'm building which will be below 200 pounds and have over 20hp on VP race gas which is around the corner from my house with another motor in the works for next year which will have over 35hp-45hp.

I'm thinking something like so minus the chrome and replaced with aluminum or the color aluminum.

someone isn't going to be happy with me but i know what i'm going to do with the motorcycle now. It's going to keep it's 60's look for the most part but it's going to be an electric superhawk. :-p 50hp and hopefully under 300 pounds. It's staying superhawk as far as frame, front fork wheel, and headlight and rear wheel and swing arm is concerned. It's going to be superhawk drum brakes, and somewhat inspired by the Cr93 street. It's not getting a race fairing like the 60/70s era but it's going to get a fairing setup that wraps around tightly against the body but not around the headlight etc. Tank, seat, exhaust, complete engine, and extra parts ( I was told on the phone it has extra parts) will all be forsale. tank might go on one of my CB125 frames ( I have three of them)

The Cb125 mini monster will be my gas motorcycle and this will be my electric setup. I think it's a good frame and brake setup for an electric motorcycle.

Contact me if Interested in anything via email at livinotte@cox.net if I go ahead and do this and I'll know in a few hours.
