restoration basics, need some help

Post by plastic » Wed May 19, 2010 1:40 pm

I have a lot of bikes but have never done a total cosmetic restoration. I have a ca160 that I have started on and do not want to do everything the hard or wrong way. Is there a source for restoration technique basics? Would anyone like to share some expertise to the novices around?

Here are three good books I used a lot.

Bill Silvers restoration guides

Might also want to try "How To Restore Your Motorcycle", by Mark Zimmerman as well; it's a great, easy-to-read book, and from what I understand it's being re-released with color pictures...the first one only had B/W, but it's WELL worth it! Zimmerman knows his stuff; I have the Maintenence book as well...the part on engine restoration is helping me through my CA77 resto...

You might also want to try the Clymer Collection Series Vintage Japanese Street Bikes; it covers the CA and C77 Dreams, plus the Kawasaki Z-1 and H-1 bikes...it's essentially a reprint of the shop manual for all 3 bikes in one volume; It's sold on the Motorbooks website for about $28, I think...well worth it.

I purchased that book and I am very pleased with it. It organizes chaotic people such as myself. The second picture of a complete motorcycle in it is a honda 305 Dream:)
