The long weekend allowed me to make a bit more progress. I gathered together all of the bits for the kickstart cover and got started. First job was to make a little hollow punch to help me knock in some new grease nipples.

I found most of the parts but was missing a couple of circlips and thrust washers. These are just generic parts so I orderd some on ebay rather than the usual suppliers CMS and David Silver as neither had all the bits in stock.

The kickstart gear that I had 'reconstructed' was a nice fit in the case as I had deliberately left it a tad oversized.

Luckily the missing parts were on the outside so I'll just put them on when they turn up. I created another problem when I remade the kickstart gear. I forgot to line up the timing marks when I welded the teo parts together. I'll have to put a new mark at the kickstart lever end when I put it all together.

After that bit of assembly work I got back to work polishing my two brake plates. Both are different from later models. The front is single leading shoe and the back has am unusual angle for the torque arm. Also in this picture is the 'plain' oil filter cover on the primary cover. These '61 bikes had neither the Honda logo nor the 'made in Japan' script on the cover. It doesn't really look as nice as later ones but that's how it was....

It would be nice to get all of the brake linkages fitted and then get on to some therapeutic wheel building.

Thanks. It's going to be difficult finding the time this year and everything on this bike needed attention so it's a long haul at times.

I'm retired and have a problem with things around here that Go Break In The Dark.
Thank goodness I have a son-in-law to help with some of the work. ......................lm
