Gas Tank Central Strip for CA72

Post by G-Man » Thu Nov 04, 2010 1:45 pm

Not sure if this part officially made it to the US but there is a chrome strip which fits to the central tank seam on early C72 and possibly CA72 tanks. The one I have is too rusty to re-chrome and my chromers have given up. I can possibly get it built up with copper but I just wondered if anyone had such a part lurking amongst their collection.

Officially the part is 17665-250-000 originally fitted to the C70 250cc twin (early Dream?)

Thanks

G

G, you may be able to use the top frame molding from a 1970 Honda CT70. If you take a picture of the backside, I can probably tell for sure. It would of course need to be cut to length.

If you are not 100% purist, some chrome door edge trim from local auto parts store will probably work.

That's what I used on the bottom tank edge seam on my 750.

It doesn't do 90 degree bends very well, but the gentle curvature of the tank seam should be ok

What an excellent idea! I used to have a ST70 so I know exactly what you mean. I'll send some photos tomorrow with measurements but I think that I may be able to get one of those strips from David Silver.

Thanks again!

Many thanks for that, too! I'll take a look at both ideas and report back.

Although the part is used on early C72's it is not mentioned in the parts book at all. It only appears on the C70 parts list.

Thanks again both for the input!

Here's a low res pic of the strip on my 750.....been on there about 15 years

It is plastic chrome that is pre-glued

G, I've restored a bunch of CT70s, TS70s to you. When I saw the pic of your tank, It resembled that strip on the top of the frame. Hope it works for you!
