Not to be a wise ass, but this didn't break due to you grinding the tip off to shorten the cable did it? You may be able to just have a cable made up and salvage the casing. There are companies that will do that for you at a reasonable price. Here are several links to get you started that direction if you choose to do so. I know Palo Alto Speedometer will make the whole shabang for you, casing included, not sure about the 2nd link. 44830-268-010 is the early cable I believe.

Good luck!

No worries Tinman, I appreciate all advice. My cable-grinding project was a total success. It was the housing that broke on the speedo drive (front wheel) end. When you tighten the nut onto the speedo drive, it pushes against a lip on the cable housing, this lip is thin metal and broke, so there is nothing to hold the housing against the speedo drive. It can't really be repaired because of how it all fits together.

If i had a bucket full of old speedo cable housings I could probably rig something together cuz my inner cable is fine. But, I do not have that bucket full of old housings.

Haha, I should have guessed! I'll keep those sorts of things I mind next time i need to improvise some parts, but my new cable is already on its way. Davo, do you want my old inner cable once I get the new one?

Yeah, you can just throw it in the back of the pick-up next time I see you on Van Ness!
