Update

Post by conbs » Thu Jan 27, 2011 3:36 pm

I looked and could not find B&S part number 6001 anywhere. To make matters worse, most of our local hardware stores and the like don't really carry much in the way of small engine parts anymore. The guy at the big orange box store looked at me like I was from Mars when I asked for something besides a spark plug, filter or oil.

Searching online I found B&S part #66538S for under $3 (shipping was nother $10 but I paid it because the closest lawn mower parts place is 30 minutes away).

Received it today and it looks the same as what Britman has pictured above. Trimmed it per his pictures and it works and fits great. A little silicone lube and the big end of the bulb will slide right in. A little struggle getting the othe end of the boot over the lense holder, but that ensures a nice tight fit.

At $3 (if your can get it locally) this is a great low-buck alternative to the real thing and fairly easy to find. If you need just the rubber boot and want to have the real deal, I understand the flat topped red lense assembly that Fast Fred offerred above (I think it is for a 350) has the same boot on it. If that is not correct I hope someone will correct me.

I hope this will be helpful to others.

Long since, Ed, but I have a decent spare red, domed lens if you still need one.
