Source for chrome bolts, washers, etc?

Post by jsmith1107 » Mon Apr 22, 2013 8:55 am

Does anyone have a source for chrome bolts, washers, etc?

I need just a few for my CL77 restoration because some of them were either missing when I bought the bike or totally ruined after someone put them in wrong.

Thanks,
Jeff

Finding JIS hardware is difficult - Finding chrome JIS hardware is impossible.

Finding ISO hardware fairly easy - Finding ISO chrome possible but not easy.

I have been buying ISO stainless hardware and polishing it - then also buying in ISO tap or die for the existing threads. The thread pattern between JIS and ISO is fairly close. Retapping seems to work fairly well.

so when you polish stainless out, how does it look? Does it shine and is similiar to chrome in its look?

Here's a pic of a stainless acorn nut that holds the shock. I polished it and ran a die over the shock mount so it wold thread on. Stainless will polish and be very close to chrome - It won't have quite the "snap" that chrome has. There is a compound specifically for stainless (green) but regular will work okay.
