Hi folks, I'm in kind of a pickle here:
Short version: Pretty desperately need the four screws that mount the points to the points plate on my ’62 CB77. Best I can figure they’re 4x5 mm pan-head screws, JIS threads. The 4x6mm cross-head screws that hold the speedo packing in place look like they’d fit also. Tried one and it screws all the way in without binding on anything that I can tell.
Long version: Bike’s been being hard to start lately, figured I’d check timing, replace points and plugs, before getting too worried about it. Timing with old points turned out to be advanced a bit, about the distance before F marks that F marks are from T marks, if you see what I mean. So that was probably my problem.
Decided to replace points anyway, they didn’t look too great They’d been installed a few hundred miles before bike went into shed in ’74, still looked pretty good when engine was rebuilt but not so good now after nearly 2000 miles.
When I put the bike back together two years ago I noticed that the screw heads in question were getting pretty boogered up by my ham-handed mechanicing and vowed to replace them at next opportunity. I ordered what I thought were some new ones from Western Hills but apparently was reading the fiche wrong as what I got was 5x12 screws that hold the points plate to the adapter on the head.
The 4x5 screws I need don’t show in Western Hills fiche, two parts manuals I have, or the list in the Bill Silver guide, which shows every other fastener on the bike as best I can tell.
Extrapolating from what I’ve learned part number might be 93500-04005 (?).
I felt really lucky to get those old wallowed-put screws loosened, had to use the impact driver on two of them. Don’t really want to go back with the old screws, have no confidence in being able to get them tight enough to keep things from drifting in there…and if I do get them tight enough, no confidence in being able to get them out again when necessary. Besides which I dropped/lost one of the sob’s when juggling the points to avoid losing the eccentric adjusting screw that was trying really hard to get away from me. Only 102 degrees on the porch today which may have contributed to my clumsiness. Rats.
Any expert help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lee

Got ScrewsLee, I got you covered. I don,t have any new 4x5 J.I.S. screws but I have about a dozen real nice used ones, I also have a old complete points plate assy. that might have some in good shape. I'll check the stash tomorrow and let you know.
